It’s been longer then I would have liked since my last journal update. Been busy all around, between friends and 3d, it doesn’t leave much time. However, I’ll have to admit that I have been slacking a bit. I haven’t done any of the many projects I have. I guess I just don’t know which one to start with. I should probably get on texturing that night crawler I took one week to create at school for a project even though I do not like texturing. I guess that might be because texturing just isn’t one of my strong points.

I’ve learned much since the last time. Already I look at my airship and my fantasy medieval town and consider them to be flat and lifeless and let’s not even mention the poor texture work that was done. I for sure that I cannot use them as they are for the demo I’ll be presenting in 6 months to employers. However, I haven’t decided in what I would specialise myself. That’s a decision I’ll need to be making soon. And then I’ll need to decide if I should attempt to salvage those projects or make something entirely new. One thing is for sure, if I can avoid texturing, I will. However, the reality of it is that a level designer needs to be able to prove that he can texture and the same goes for a character modeller. In other words, I’m not getting away from it that easily.

However, there is one thing that I have decided. Out of all the games I have played and liked, there is one thing that is constant amongst my favourites. They are all fantasy games and a lot of them portrait cute /manga / cartoony / stretchy characters. That is what I intend to produce for my demo as that is the kind of games I would like to make. Spyro and Ratchet are two very good examples and both were created by Insomniac. Too bad their studios are in California. That’s a bit too far for my liking.

Edit: I've decided that I would spend some time working on texturing NightCrawler. While I do not want to become a texturer, there is no way to avoid having to do some texturing from time to time, so I might as well make my peace with it right now.
